In 2011, Vanhalst signed the West Flemish sustainable entrepreneurship charter. In doing so, we committed ourselves to voluntarily working on themes such as ecology and biodiversity. One of our most recent projects is the welcome of 80,000 new colleagues who are busy day and night in our life forest.
The West Flemish sustainable entrepreneurship charter is the ideal tool to concretely shape and structure sustainable entrepreneurship. It also provides the impetus for continuous improvement of environmental, social and economic performance.
The creation of the "life forest" of 1,000 poplars (short rotation coppice - SRC) on the site next to the company building proves, first and foremost, that sustainability and biodiversity are always at the top of the agenda. This commitment also fits perfectly within the framework of a continuous effort to pay balanced attention to the economic and social impact of entrepreneurship, but equally to the ecological consequences.
The welcoming of 80,000 new colleagues in this life forest is the most recent project in this endeavor to achieve a good balance in terms of biodiversity. Together with Honeybeez Imkerij, we want to help people and nature by increasing the bee population in the region. With some pride, we were able to give no less than 80,000 busy bees a place in our life forest in April! Did you know that?... Bees are very diligent workers who fly up to five kilometers in search of nectar and pollen? Business assured, then!
Of course, the bees need this nectar to eventually produce honey. And indeed, this fun alternative is also very welcome for us... With our own honey, we can offer our customers a great creative idea. You can't imagine a more beautiful synergy!
